I premiered Adagietto in my diploma recital for the Royal Carillon School. I could not have completed it without the close guidance of my teacher and friend Geert D'hollander, particularly during my recovery from a severe cycling accident that hindered my progress. Although I focus energetically on contemporary music, I experimented with writing in the retrospective style of Adagietto because little carillon repertoire survives from the Romantic era.
The inner voices of the piece should be kept as quiet as possible, and notes from the manual part may be played with the pedals whenever necessary, particularly on heavy instruments. If desired, the arpeggiated chords in measures 7 and 42 may begin on g, followed by the remaining notes from lowest to highest.
