Ave Maris Stella is an extended, improvisatory paraphrase on the traditional Gregorian chant. It is written for the extended bass and treble range available at the carillons of Kirk-in-the-Hills (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan) and Riverside Church (Manhattan, New York). It was premiered by Dennis Curry at the Riverside Church in November 2005, close to Briggs's home.
