"Let Me Call You Sweetheart" was an immediate hit for the Peerless Quartet when they debuted Leo Friedman's song in a 1911 recording. A product of Tin Pan Alley, it is among the best-selling songs in sheet music; has been featured in a century's worth of films (as recently as the 2020s); and has been recorded by many artists including Bing Crosby, Patti Page, and Fats Domino.

In 2015, the Library of Congress added the original 1911 recording to the National Recording Registry due to its cultural and historical significance. According to the library, the song "has an uncomplicated rhyming scheme and predictable melodic contour, making it a song that has endured for more than a century with its unabashed expression of love."
