While reading about the carillon I came across a phrase in an article by Joey Brink advising composers to "think upside down," giving a melody to the bass bells to take advantage of their mass and dynamic range. Browsing for upside-down thinkers naturally led to the octopus. Octopus steals crab from fisherman is a short online clip from episode 1 of the BBC programme Super Smart Animals. This piece is loosely inspired by the structure of the octopus poaching strategy.
