"Oriental" is the final movement in Alfred Holý's composition In Toyland, Op. 30, scored for solo harp. First published circa 1910, the composition is considered a set of easy pieces in the late-Romantic style.
The original composition exhibits orientalism, the practice in Western art of generalizing diverse cultural practices under a monolithic "oriental" aesthetic. The term oriental has since been recognized as outdated and inappropriate as a descriptor of style. While this work is published under its original title, we acknowledge that it is not necessarily representative of authentic musical traditions from any Asian cultures.
