Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette is one of my all-time favorite films. In one scene, the queen is shown singing a simple chanson in her private theater in the gardens of the petite trianon. It is such a sweet, catchy melody, but for years I couldn't figure out the name of the tune, and Google didn't seem to be much help. About a year ago, after my annual re-watch, I figured I would give Google another try and, miraculously, found the name of the piece! The lyrics, overly-saccharine as they were wont to be in those days, captivated me for some reason and I immediately got to work arranging it for carillon. I think it turned out particularly nicely. Performers should feel free to add the occasional (stylistically appropriate!) embellishment to the vocal line as singers in Her Majesty's time would likely have done.
