Since arriving at the University of Chicago's campus in 2021, it has been my pleasure to hear the sounds of its beautiful carillon being regularly played. One can hear all manner of tunes radiating out from Rockefeller Chapel, from Prokofiev to videogame music. It always sets a tone for the day that invites reflection and presence of mind amidst the chaos of school. As the notes echo off of campus buildings and transform as you walk to hear them from different vantage points, you start to remember how even a subtle shift in perspective can make a world of difference.
This piece is written with immense gratitude to the GCNA for their support and stewardship of new music.
