How The Light Gets In is inspired by the lyrics from the Leonard Cohen song "Anthem":

Ring the bells that still can ring / Forget your perfect offering / There is a crack, a crack in everything / That's how the light gets in.

How The Light Gets In was commissioned by George Gregory, and received its premiere by carillon duo George Gregory and Julianne Vanden Wyngaard at the 75th GCNA congress in Mariemont, Ohio, June 2017.
