This composition by Ronald Barnes won the $1,000 prize in the 60th Anniversary Carillon Composition Competition of Christ Church Cranbrook (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan). It was premiered at the Wallace Carillon and church's anniversary celebration on September 25, 1988.
Subtitled "Homage to Johann Sebastian Bach," the piece is a prelude and fugue set in the famous composer's style. The hymn tune "Old 104th"—number 532 in the Episcopal Hymnal: "How Wondrous and Great"—serves as the bass line of the prelude, and a fragment of it forms the subject of the three-part fugue.
