Sonate was written while Robins was studying at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort. It is simple in its idiom and in the musical figurations involved. The first and third movements are intentionally reminiscent of the music of Matthias Vanden Gheyn. The second movement, however, is a short chaconne.
